Library Link: Removing barriers to access with online payments

Patrons no longer need to come to the library to pay their fines or fees.

Fees and fines can now be paid online through the Library’s website.

One of our core values here at Airdrie Public Library (APL) is to be an accessible and inclusive destination that, engages the mind, strengthens community and enhances quality of life.

This may sound like a lofty ideal, but it is achievable in many practical ways.

One of these practical ways, is our Grab ‘N’ Go bags, which are filled with age-specific books for babies to preschoolers. They're available for busy parents to walk in and grab from the shelf, scan at the self checkout, and then go. Convenience and accessibility are the goals.

Another example of this is APL’s recently introduced online payment system, which offers our patrons the option of paying library fines and fees without coming into the physical building. Patrons can access this easy and convenient service by logging into their TRACpac account and then navigating to “Fines and Fees.”

Of course, you can still stop by the library to pay, but now, if mobility is an issue – or you just don’t have the time – you can do it from the convenience of your own home.

If you’ve ever paid a utility bill, you’ll know the move to an online payment option is a significant step toward removing barriers for users, which is something that our community strives for in many ways.

For instance, you may have heard the City of Airdrie recently initiated a mobile fare payment option for Airdrie Transit users. Offered in partnership with a Canadian company, Hotspot App, transit users can now download the app, which offers a simple and cashless point of sale from their phones for one time use or monthly passes.

Of course, like the library, you can still pay the traditional way, using cash, paper tickets or monthly passes.

The goal of both the City of Airdrie and APL is to enhance quality of life through accessible and inclusive services.
