One of the cool things about working in a public library is the thousands of books on the shelves.

If you’re a reader, you’ll understand what’s cool about that.

There just isn’t enough space in one’s home to contain all the books one wants to read.

Which is one of the reasons libraries exist, they level the playing field for everyone who reads, who wants to read, and who doesn’t necessarily have the space or income to make that happen.

Here at Airdrie Public Library (APL), you’ll find popular authors such as Stephen King, James Patteson, Norah Roberts, Margarette Attwood and many others on our shelves and online through the TRACpac app.

These and countless other authors have brought thrills, chills, romance, intrigue, inspiration, and knowledge to our lives through their wonderful talents, and to have access to them is one of the privileges a public library brings.

Did you know, though, that Airdrie Public Library (APL) also has a growing collection of local authors who enrich our lives with their talent?

Writers such as Nancy Bell, Diane Bator, Ann Edall-Robson, Brent Purdue, Perry Logan, Alex Williamson, Philip Hoffman, Margaret Hanna, Tara Pickford and many others can be found on our shelves.

These local authors cover a gamut of topics and genres equal to anything you might find on our Popular Pick shelves.

To celebrate this treasure trove of local authors, APL is hosting an Airdrie Author Fair on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 1-3 p.m.

Stop by the library and meet some of the amazing writers who live among us.

Participating authors will have tables displaying their books and will be available to answer any of your questions.

They’ll also have information on where you can purchase their books, because as wonderful as libraries are at supporting writers, they still need to pay their bills.
