As all library users know, programmers at Airdrie Public Library (APL) don’t take the summer off. We kick into summer mode on July 3 with some terrific programming.

The TD Summer Reading CLUB (SRC) launches on July 3 for patrons in grades K-7 and July 5 for preschoolers (ages three to four).

This year’s theme of Summer of Discover will guide participants in exploring dinosaurs and fossils, magic and illusions, unusual creatures and much, much more.

There are two ways to participate, in-person or through a Reading Log if your child is unable to attend.

Preschool programs include Rhymes and Songs, Monday Movers and the return of last summer’s hit, Wacky Wednesdays.

Wacky Wednesdays features a themed-storytime every week, including songs and crafts. And just like last year, costumes are encouraged.

Mighty Machines returns on July 16, where the public can get up close and personal with some of Airdrie’s mightiest machines.

Our summer author reading is with Edmonton-based writer, journalist, editor, and filmmaker Omar Mouallem. He’ll be reading from his work Praying to the West on July 22.

Summer at APL could also be called the Summer of the Makerspace. We have two VR programs, one for ages six and up and one just for adults, and both explore ways to use this exciting technology.

There’s also two CAD Design for 3D printing programs, one for ages six to 12 and the other just for adults. Both programs will show participants how to make 3D models for printing on a 3D printer.

There are also two programs dealing with the Internet and social media, one for ages 13 to 18 and one for adults who wish to help their child manage this aspect of their lives.

We also have a Digital Paint Night and a Media Conversion Station tutorial for adults, and a Robot Fight Night and Makerspace Challenges for ages six to 12.
