While Airdrie Public Library (APL) programs are on break until May 6, we’d like to point out some of the library’s lesser-known items in our collection.

For starters, we have a sleek, new iMac Multimedia Station by the Fireplace loaded with Creative Cloud, which includes Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Audition, Premiere Pro and much more.

Then there are our Storytime Kits that you’ll find in the Children’s Area.

These wonderful, zippered packets are for preschoolers and are stuffed with themed material such as Sewing, Parrots, Beading, Sushi, and much more.

Of course, our very popular preschool backpacks do not hang on their hooks for very long.

These have themes ranging from weather, mazes, drawing, vet play, and much more.

To help your child with kindergarten this fall, we’ve added several backpacks with themes of math, writing, physical, and emotional readiness.

We’ve also added to our series of backpacks for school-aged kids, including themes on engineering, science, robotics, and coding.

Patrons can also borrow Metis and Treaty 7 school-age backpacks, which help your child discover about the region’s First Peoples through books and themed toys.

This year, we’ve added packets for adults, which include a Happy Light, Stud Finder, and a Soil Tester.

Patrons can place a hold on and check out any of these items as you would a book.

Another little gem in the library is a wonderful collection of audio books for children.

Perfect for those long drives or even bedtime, you can find a wide range of stories from The Boxcar Children to Harry Potter to the Dork Diaries.

The final hidden gem at APL, for this column anyway, is our collection of children’s books in multiple languages.

You can find preschool-aged stories in French, Spanish, Punjabi, Tagalog, and in a variety of Indigenous languages.
