December is a busy month whether you observe any specific celebration or not.

Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and many other festivals and celebration are held during December, making the month one of the most exciting of the year, especially for children.

Sure, there’s lots of commercialization around the holidays, but there’s plenty of ways to join in without breaking the bank.

Here at Airdrie Public Library (APL), we’re in full cost-saving festival mode.

We’ve decked the halls at the library in preparation for the final weeks of programming before 2023 comes to an end.

"Snowflake Follies," our popular annual preschool event for ages 2-6, happens on Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 5:30-7 p.m.

Supported by Chinook Gate, drop-in for a wonderland of songs, stories, fun activities, and games.

If you do have a few extra bucks, APL’s popular "Paint Night Fundraiser, Gnome Edition," returns on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Tickets, available at Customer Service, are $40 for all ages and include all art materials, refreshments, light snacks, and a ton of fun.

Artist Russell Thomas will be our guide for this whimsical world of gnomes on canvas.

"Wii and Tales for the Tall" wraps up with a festive celebration complete with snacks, games, and music on Dec. 6.

"Murder Mystery Party," an evening of intrigue just for teens, will see participants have the chance to play a mystic, a traveller, or perhaps the villain.

Supported by Kiwanis Club Airdrie, this event happens on Friday, Dec. 8 from 6-8 p.m.

The Makerspace will see the final two sessions of VR Gaming on Dec. 2 and 9, and the anticipated Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (KTNE) program for adults on Dec. 9.

KTNE is a fun VR experience where you and your friends solve a bomb puzzle before the timer runs out. For more information on these and other library programs, visit www.airdriepubliclibrary.ca.
