The song, 'February Brings the Rain,' popularized by American singer and actor Julie London, is often heard on the radio around Valentine’s Day.
While sung with her trademark sultry, contralto voice, this is Alberta in February, after all, and it probably won’t rain.
However, at Airdrie Public Library (APL), February does bring a host of programs almost as refreshing as a lovely rainfall (a rainfall in the summer, of course).
Besides our regular after-school and preschool programs, we’re thrilled to present our first ever yoga class. Called Chair Yoga, held in partnership with Oranj Fitness on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m., participants can spend an hour over Zoom with an instructor exploring stretches and movements that can be done while sitting.
The Pages of Pride book club also meets that evening online at 7 p.m., where the Lumberjanes comic book series created by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn A. Allen and Noelle Stevenson is the focus.
In other upcoming events, Design a Library – APL’s very cool 3D design program using Tinkercad – continues Feb. 8 and 15. Using the library’s laptops, participants learn about sizing, shapes, and design all aimed at creating your very own version of what will soon be Airdrie's new library facility.
February also sees the return of ARTSaturday with local artist Jaye Benoit. On Feb. 12, Benoit will present two virtual sessions, one for patrons ages seven to 13 at 1 p.m., and another for ages 14 and older at 7 p.m. Since the program is only a few days before the annual celebration of love, the classes will focus on a piece of Valentine’s Day-themed art. Please note, there is a list of required but easily attainable items that participants will need to create their art pieces.
Also, watch out for DIY Investing Fundamentals on Feb. 17, presented by a senior adviser with the Alberta Securities Commission, and After Dark – Fort Night for teens on Feb. 19.
