Library Link: Art on the Walls at APL

If you stop by Airdrie Public Library (APL), you’ll notice we have two art exhibits happening.

Both are by Airdrie residents, and each has a unique style and visual experience to offer.

On the left and back walls, Jean MacDougall’s work provides a pop of colour to our drab walls.

Her works are colourful, bright, and impressionistic, depicting pastoral landscapes in broad, happy strokes of oil or acrylic.

Vibrant blossoms and roiling foliage brace her images of cottages, mountains, and serene river scenes.

Originally from Kelowna, MacDougall had been an active member of its arts community and continues that passion in Airdrie’s art community, most notably through her involvement with the Over 50 Club.

On the other side of the library, you’ll find exquisite artwork by Airdrie’s Angela Stone.

Having an almost photographic quality to her work, Stone captures Canadian wildlife and landscapes in acrylic, watercolours, and coloured pencils.

Self-taught, Stone has lived in three provinces and travelled coast to coast, drawing inspiration from her journeys.

She has been a participating artist in the Airdrie Food Bank’s Empty Bowls fundraiser, the Calgary Zoo's Wild About Art exhibition and is currently featured in Airdrielife Magazine's current winter issue.

Both exhibits will be up until Feb. 1, 2024.

One more thing before we go, APL is excited to announce that our mothership, the Marigold Library System, is setting up our collection to auto-renew twice unless there are holds on the items you’ve borrowed, or they are from our in-high-demand Popular Pick collection.

Patrons will still receive the usual three days notice prior to the item’s return date.

This clever little trick will remove the onus on renewing items on time for patrons, which should make everyone happy!
