Keeping cold for a cause – Airdrie firefighters brave the elements during Toad 'n' Turtle rooftop campout

Four Airdrie firefighters are braving the elements until Saturday, enduring bitterly cold conditions as they camp out on the rooftop of the Toad 'n' Turtle Pubhouse and Grill to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

The 72-hour camp-out started yesterday (Feb. 22) and will last until Saturday, Feb. 25. The four members of the Airdrie Professional Firefighters Association (AFPA) are confined to the pub until then, and are committed to sleeping in a tent that has been erected on the pub's rooftop patio.

As Mother Nature would have it, the bulk of this year's three-night camp-out will coincide with a bitter cold snap in Airdrie. Temperatures are currently -26 C, according to The Weather Network, with a forecasted low tonight of -36 C.

Cash donations can be made in person (there is a pair of boots attached by a string at the base of the pub near the main entrance) or online at airdriefirefighters.com
