The Airdrie and District Community Foundation was established in 2016, and now boasts a fund of more than $475,000 to support local charities and non-profits.

Airdrie's registered charities have until Feb. 21 to apply for federal grant money of up to $100,000 from the Airdrie and District Community Foundation, which is dispersing $255,000 over the next 18 months to help local charities adapt and modernize.

Foundation Chair, Dale Rathgeber, said the federal government has asked the local community foundation to administer the Community Services Recovery Fund in Airdrie and areas.

"The fund is part of the government’s plan to strengthen the non-profit sector as it supports COVID-related economic recovery,” he said in a release.

In keeping with the program’s resiliency aims, Rathgeber added the grants cannot be used for program costs, but can be used for systems, equipment, or gear.

More information and applications are available online at communityservicesrecoveryfund.ca. Applications must be received before 6 p.mm on Feb. 21 and the funds will be distributed by June of next year.

The Airdrie and District Community Foundation connects donors and charitable organizations, with tax receipts and expertise. It holds donations forever, and grants the interest earned on its legacy donations every year to local charities.
