UPDATE: Crossfield man has died in motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A

According to an RCMP press release, the collision occurred at approximately 11:57 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 2A and Dickson Steven Trail.

Airdrie Rural RCMP, Emergency Medical Services, and the Crossfield Fire Department are currently on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision south of Crossfield.

According to an RCMP press release, the collision occurred at approximately 11:57 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 2A and Dickson Steven Trail on Nov. 1.

"The intersection of Highway 2A and Dickson Steven Trail is currently closed to traffic," read the statement. "The intersection will be re-opened later this afternoon."

Currently, motorists are encouraged to access Crossfield via Highway 2A from Township Road 292, north of Crossfield.

Emergency personell have cleared the scene of a serious collision at Highway 2A and Dickson Stevenson Trail, where a man was pronounced deceased on scene. 

According to an RCMP press release, an SUV turned northbound onto Highway 2A from Dickson Stevensen Trail and was struck by a commercial vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 2A. 

The driver of the SUV, an adult male resident of Crossfield, was pronounced deceased on scene. An adult female resident of Crossfield was a passenger in the SUV. 

"She was transported to hospital and is in stable condition," read the press release. "The drive of the commercial vehicle was treated on scene with no physical injuries."

The intersection of Highway 2A and Dickson Stevenson Trail is now open to traffic. 

"Crossfield Town Council and administration are saddened by the loss of one of our own residents," said Crossfield's mayor Kim Harris, in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends.

"The road development and maintenance lays outside of the Town of Crossfield limits and within Rocky View County. Responsibilities lies with the province to ensure the safety of drivers. Hopefully the province will be able to look into the safety of this intersection."

The press release stated drugs, alcohol, and road conditions are not believed to be factors in the collision.
