Spring will be in the air at the Airdrie Farmers’ Market this Saturday at the Town and Country Centre.

With over 50 vendors to choose from, Farmer’s Market manager Candice Kolson said there really is something for everyone at the market’s annual “Spring Fling” event.

“All of our vendors are bringing in their spring lines of whatever it is that’s available,” she told the Airdrie City View in a recent interview. “So our jewellery vendors will have spring-themed jewellery. Our crafters will have spring-themed crafts … You are going to see Father’s Day gifts, Mother’s Day gifts – a lot of our vendors will really tailor to what’s going on currently and what’s trending now. (And) a lot of our food vendors will have their food products that are seasonal.”

Kolson said the Spring Fling is one of a handful of exclusively indoor events the Airdrie Farmers’ Market holds each year. Most of the market’s events are outdoors at Jensen Park and in the parking lot of the Plainsmen Arena.

“Because the weather is a little too cold and unpredictable for us to be outside, we try to throw a few of these (indoor markets) a year,” she explained. “We do one in the spring and two in the fall, and one at Christmas, just to give our vendors the opportunity to get some of those early or late sales in the season.”

As to why the Airdrie Farmers’ Market typically holds its Spring Fling on Easter weekend, Kolson said with so many Airdronians travelling, but so many visitors coming into town, there are not a lot of organized public events for local families to do together in the city this weekend.

“We found there are not a lot of events (in Airdrie) on Easter weekend, because people are busy and can’t commit,” she explained. “But just as there are many people leaving Airdrie for Easter weekend, we are hoping there are just as many people visiting Airdrie [this] Easter weekend, and are looking for something to do. It’s just like a nice, little event that gives you something to do on the long weekend.”

While there is no price of admission for the Spring Fling Farmers’ Market, Kolson hopes many will bring donations for the Airdrie Food Bank in lieu.

“People can donate either a bag of food or they can bring in money and put it directly into the donation bin,” she said.

The Airdrie Farmers’ Market Spring Fling takes place on Saturday at the Town and Country Centre. The market opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m.
