Winter may be return with avengeance to parts of Rocky View County, as Environment Canada issued a winter storm watch shorty after 3:30 p.m. March 11.

"An upcoming winter storm will bring reduced visibility in blowing snow and heavy falling snow to much of southern Alberta beginning tomorrow evening and lasting until Saturday," the watch stated.

Areas impacted include Bragg Creek, Tsuu'tina, Chestermere, Dalroy and Dalemead, according to the release.

"Unseasonably cold temperatures" are expected to settle in on Friday throughout much of the province and forecasts indicate they will remain until early next week.

"The storm will develop south of the Alberta-Montana border on Friday," the watch stated. "As the storm strengthens, snowfall amounts and wind speeds will intensify. There is some uncertainty as to how far south this low will develop; certainty will increase as the event draws nearer."

Travel is anticipated to be hazardous, according to Environment Canada, due to accumulating and blowing snow reducing visibility in some locations.

"If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone," the watch read. "Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight."
