Two Airdrie residents arrested on purpose-of-trafficking charges in Cochrane

Two Airdrie residents have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance last month.

Two Airdrie residents have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance last month near the Stoney Nakoda resort and casino.

On Aug. 19, Cochrane RCMP issued a press release about an arrest that occurred west of the town on July 17. According to the detachment, local mounties received a complaint about an erratic driver on Highway 1 and Highway 40.

“Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop,” the release stated. “While speaking to the occupants, officers became suspicious of drug activity in the vehicle.”

After a short investigation, officers arrested both occupants for possession of a controlled substance. According to the release, a search incidental to the arrest resulted in the seizure of 228.8 grams of heroin and 22.8 grams of methamphetamine.

As a result, Airdrie residents Harvinder Randhawa, 43, and Charanjit Gandham, 35, were both charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance. According to the detachment, Gandham was released on a $5,000 no-cash bail, and his next court appearance is on Sept. 7 in Cochrane. Randhawa was also released on $1,000 cash bail, but did not show up for his court appearance on Aug. 10, and there is currently a warrant out for his arrest.
