At a regular meeting July 23, Rocky View County (RVC) council doled out funding to several Langdon recreation groups under the Langdon Recreation Special Tax Funding Grant – an annual program funded through a special tax levy meant to support community initiatives that improve recreation services in the hamlet, according to Community Services Co-ordinator Althea Panaguiton.

Two requests by the Langdon Community Association (LCA) were approved unanimously – one for $10,400 of operational funding for playground maintenance, and another for $3,200 of capital funding to install lights at the skate park and playground.

Council also partially fulfilled a request by the Langdon Theatre Association, providing $15,675 for facility rentals and a field trip to attend a play in Calgary, but withholding a portion of money requested to pay instructor fees that was deemed not to comply with the grant policy.

Two requests were refused – an application by the Langdon Softball Association for $1,517 for a ball diamond was identified as a non-eligible retroactive expenditure and was unanimously denied, and a $700 request by Synergy Youth and Community Development Society to build a “Little Lending Library” was also not granted, as libraries are not considered eligible under the funding program. Coun. Daniel Henn opposed the refusal, which carried 8-1.
