Rocky View County's new sidewalk clearing bylaw now in effect

According to a news post from RVC, the bylaw, which council passed earlier this year, requires property owners and occupants to clear snow and ice from public sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours of a snowfall. The bylaw applies to sidewalks that were previously serviced by the County in Langdon, Harmony, Watermark, Cochrane Lake, and East Balzac.

Rocky View County's new sidewalk clearing bylaw is officially in effect, as winter weather descends upon the region.

With winter weather officially arriving, Rocky View County (RVC) is reminding residents about recent changes made to the municipality's sidewalk clearing bylaw.

"Under the bylaw, snow and ice must not be piled on County roads or public pathways," RVC's post stated. "Please also keep fire hydrants and storm drains on and beside the property clear of snow, to ensure emergency access and to prevent flooding."

For business owners or operators, the County's post added awnings, canopies, and marquees must also be kept free of snow.

Questions about the changes can be directed to RVC Transportation Services by emailing [email protected] or by calling 403-230-1401

While property owners and occupants are now responsible for clearing the public sidewalks and snow ridges/windrows next to their property, the County continues to plow County roads on a priority basis.

"Thank you for your co-operation in keeping the sidewalks safe and accessible for all residents and pedestrians," the County stated.
