RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) South are investigating a death in rural Rocky View County (RVC).

According to a Oct. 3 press release, Strathmore RCMP responded to a structure fire on a rural property in the early morning hours Oct. 1.

Human remains were discovered inside the burning building, and MCU South was contacted, according to the release. The unit began an investigation, assisted by the Calgary RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

The following day, an autopsy was conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary.

"Further investigation is being completed to identify the deceased person," the press release said.

The cause of the fire also remains under investigation by RVC's District Fire Chief.

According to the police, an update will be provided once available.
