More than 500 illicit cannabis plants seized on property near Langdon

Strathmore RCMP executed a search warrant at a property south of Langdon on June 14 as part of an on-going investigation into cannabis production in the area.

More than 500 illicit cannabis plants near Langdon were seized on June 14, as Strathmore RCMP executed an on-going investigation into cannabis production in the area.

According to a press release from the detachment, authorities seized 544 illicit cannabis plants during the search. The estimated valued of the seized plants is approximately $544,000.

Calgarians Sau Va Ho, 82, Doug Ho, 49, and Xian Nong, 38, face multiple charges, including possession for the purpose of distribution, cultivation of illicit cannabis in a place that is not their dwelling, fraud over $5,000 and four counts each of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Va Ho and Doug have also been charged with writing a false statement, according to RCMP.

When contacted, Alberta RCMP representatives could not confirm or comment on whether there was a familial relation between Va Ho and Doug.

This is not the first large-scale seizure of illicit cannabis in east Rocky View County – in October 2020, a search warrant resulted in the seizure of over 1,100 illicit plants on a property northwest of Strathmore. 

According to the press release, local police are asking for the public’s help in the continued investigation into drug operations in the area.
