A drop-in immunization clinic will be offered in Crossfield on Monday, for residents who have yet to receive their first dose of a vaccine.

Appointments are not necessary, according to a press release from Alberta Health Services, and the clinic will be held at the Crossfield and District Community Centre at 900 Mountain Avenue. It will run from 4 to 8 p.m.

There will be 300 doses of mRNA vaccine available to provide those attending the clinic. Residents getting their shots are reminded to bring their Alberta Health Care card, as well as photo ID.

"You will be required to wear a face mask and use hand sanitizer when attending the site for your immunization," AHS' release stated.

"Please do your part in helping keep our community as safe as possible. It is vitally important for all of us to remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19 and to follow public health guidelines at all times. This includes maintaining physical distancing and masking."

Anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are asked stay home and arrange for testing through AHS by visiting AHS.ca or calling 811

Crossfield and its nearby communities has been lagging in terms of its vaccination rates, when compared to Alberta as a whole. According to the Alberta government's vaccine status map, 57 per cent of Crossfield, Beiseker and Irricana residents over the age of 12 had been vaccinated with one dose as of June 23, while 50 per cent of residents had received their first jabs by the same date.

That compares to a provincial average of 71 per cent of Albertans 12 and older, and 61 per cent of all residents.
