Child dead after collision between side-by-side and SUV near Acme

A 9-year-old boy has been killed and a 14-year-old boy is in hospital following a collision between a side-by-side and an SUV on Highway 575 and Range Road 264 on Aug. 19.

A 9-year-old boy is dead and a 14 year-old is in hospital after the side-by-side they were riding struck an SUV.

A collision that took place on Aug. 19 four miles west of Acme has led to the death of a 9-year-old boy, and serious non-life threatening injuries to a 14-year-old boy.

According to a press release, Airdrie RCMP were called to the scene just after 6 p.m. on Aug. 19 to a collision that involved a side-by-side and an SUV. The Acme Fire Department, EMS and Kneehill County Bylaw were also present at the scene. 

The initial investigation indicated a side-by-side carrying the two was travelling south on Range Road 264 when it entered Highway 575 and struck an SUV travelling east.

The 14-year-old was taken by STARS to a Calgary hospital. The 9-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both of the occupants are from Rocky View County, according to the release. 

The 29-year-old male driver from the County of Kneehill who was operating the SUV had no physical injuries. 

An RCMP Collision analyst did attend the scene in order to assist with the investigation. 

The name of the deceased will not be released as the investigation into the crash continues. No additional updates are expected at this time.
