Bragg Creek hosting Valentines-themed scavenger hunt

Love will be in the air – or maybe in the trees or bushes – in Bragg Creek for the next month, as the Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows Wellness Network and the hamlet’s community centre host a free Valentines-themed scavenger hunt.

According to Christine Pollard, the Bragg Creek Community Centre’s program and events manager, the outdoor scavenger hunt consists of 10 hearts scattered throughout the hamlet that participants will be tasked with finding.

“Due to the pandemic, indoor activities are still not allowed, so we just want to engage the community, keep them active, get them outdoors and create some connections with the families,” she said. “[The wellness network] just wanted to provide an activity that can be done without the risk of large crowds or having to go indoors.”

Pollard said a local community member who sits on the wellness network came up with the idea as a COVID-friendly event for the community to enjoy. While the hunt is primarily meant as a local event, she said teams from other communities are not excluded.

“We certainly welcome tourism to Bragg Creek and if they would like to stop at some of our local businesses or restaurants that are now allowed to open to dine-in service, that would be awesome,” she said. “But it is primarily a local event.”

The scavenger hunt – dubbed the Bragg Creek Hunt for Hearts – kicked off on Valentines Day and runs until March 14. Pollard said clues to help find the 10 hidden hearts can be found on braggcreekca.com.

Teams have the whole month to complete the hunt. Once they have found the 10 hearts and recorded their locations, Pollard said they will be able to submit their application form back to the community centre and be entered into a draw to win prizes.

She added the scavenger hunt will not be considerably difficult and should not take participants take more than 90 minutes to complete.

“It’s family-friendly, so the clues will be mostly geared toward kids and families,” she said.
