Music, laughter, and an evening full of entertainment is expected to fill the evening air in Springbank as the community gets set to celebrate its highly anticipated Fall Fair and Old Tyme Community Dance.
The Springbank Community Association and Springbank Park for All Seasons will be hosting the annual fall fair on Sept. 9, which will include a community dance this year. The dance is taking place at the All Seasons curling lounge, and there will be games, live entertainment, and line dancing for those wanting to bust a move on the dance floor.
President of the Springbank Community Association, Karin Hunter, said the fair used to have a community dance component, and they are wanting to bring it back. According to Hunter, roughly 120 people came out last year, and they hope to see that number grow this fall.
“It was great last year," she said. "We were really happy. (But) we're hoping for an (even) better turnout this year."
Noting that Springbank does not offer its residents many opportunities to connect on a social level, Hunter said they are focused on building a sense of community.
The Springbank Community Association does not currently have an office, and Hunter said they need to find unique ways to connect with the community. With the Four Seasons curling lounge not currently filled with ice, it provides them the perfect venue to bring the community together.
“The curling rink allows us to use the facility and connect the community for us because right now we do most of our work virtually,” Hunter said. “We really like to have something that’s an in-person fundraiser that we can contribute to.”
Hunter said this is a great opportunity for residents to connect with their neighbours and have some fun. She hopes those who attend will try something new and that people of all ages will be able to engage with the fun.
There will be live entertainment at the event, headlined by the band Heading West and cowboy singer Chutes and Boots. Hunter said Chutes and Boots will also act as emcee for the event and will be playing some games with the kids. Hunter confirmed there will be line dance instructors present for those wanting to learn how to polish up their dance moves.
“Our goals is to enhance community identity, spirit and engagement in Springbank,” she said. "I want people to walk away with a smile on their face and saying that was really fun, we had a really good time.”
Tickets to attend the event are $5 and can be purchased at www.springbankcommunity.com. Hunter confirmed that tickets will also be sold at the door. The event will open its doors at 6:30 p.m. with entertainment starting at 7 p.m. and going on until 10 p.m.
