Prevent and protect

We all want to do everything we can to keep our loved ones out of harm’s way.

We all want to do everything we can to keep our loved ones out of harm’s way. But many of the obstacles life throws our way are outside of our control, which can sometimes leave us feeling a bit helpless when it comes to protecting our friends and families. One thing you can do, however, is take solid, actionable steps to prevent a fire from starting in your home or office. Fire Prevention Week, which runs this year from Oct. 7 to 13 (see story here), will see our local firefighters heading out into the community to spread the message that a fire can happen anywhere – it’s up to us to stay alert and prepared. Whether it’s replacing the batteries in your smoke alarm, determining an escape plan for your family or eliminating possible fire hazards from your property, these simple steps will let you take the safety of your loved ones a little bit more into your own hands. Spend a bit of time this week, both at home and at work, ensuring your fire safety plan is in place. With a bit of extra thought and foresight, you can help your family, your co-workers and yourself react quickly and efficiently in the case of a fire-related emergency – and even keep the blaze from growing while you wait for fire crews to arrive. It’s not often that we have the opportunity to make a real difference in keeping our loved ones safe and secure. Please take advantage of this important reminder from our firefighters, and be sure to thank them for their hard work when you see them out and about this week.
