With the official end of summer quickly approaching – Sept. 22, to be exact – we hear a lot of complaining about the cooler temperatures, fewer hours of daylight and added time spent cooped up indoors.

With the official end of summer quickly approaching – Sept. 22, to be exact – we hear a lot of complaining about the cooler temperatures, fewer hours of daylight and added time spent cooped up indoors. That’s why we are pleased to see the numerous upcoming activities previewed in this week’s Rocky View Weekly. Sept. 19 offers county residents a chance to find out more about the fast-paced and action-packed sport of roller derby, with the hope a new group of women strap on a pair of roller-skates and give it a go. See story on page 19. Residents looking for a scary good time can head out to the Springbank area for some family-friendly and Halloween-themed entertainment at Calaway Park’s Halloweekends. See page 9 for story. Those interested in the arts have a chance to see painters in action the weekend of Sept. 22, in the Bragg Creek area. The Bragg Creek Arts Festival will showcase not only artistic skill, but the beauty of the community, as artists take part in the Plein Air event around the hamlet. See story on page 12. With the end of summer comes back to school – and the need for after school activities. The Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie has a variety of opportunities to keep youth in Irricana and area occupied. See page 11 for story. While it is hard to see the warmth of summer fade, we hope residents will take time to enjoy what fall has to offer, instead of shutting in for winter hibernation.
