PORTEOUS, Charlotte Emmaline

January 27, 1937 – September 23, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces Charlotte Porteous (nee Wright) of Calgary, AB passed away at the South Calgary Health Campus on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the age of 86 years.

Charlotte was raised on a farm at Irricana.  Farming was in her blood, as she farmed with her husband, Jerry in Crossfield until their retirement in 1995.  Afterwards, they lived for many years at Priddis Greens, enjoying golf and winters in Arizona and Hawaii along with extensive travels. After Jerry’s passing, Charlotte resided for the next five years at The Manor Village Fish Creek Park, where she made many friends.

Charlotte enrolled in Olds College in 1955 taking the Home Economics program.  For many years, she participated in various groups within the Crossfield community; including being a member of Starlight Chapter #109 of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and was a past matron.  In 1974, Charlotte and her husband became involved in the Quarter Horse business until 1985. During this time, they had many successes and had a real passion for their cutting and working cow horses. Once retired, Charlotte loved her flower garden and was a member of the Gyrate Club of Calgary until her passing.

Charlotte is survived by daughters, Cheryl Rockafellow (Greg) of Crossfield, AB and Joanne Butz of Calgary AB; grandchildren, Justin Rockafellow (Jenna), Cody Rockafellow, Garrett Rockafellow (Amanda), Taylor Butz (Janice), and Laura Butz (Mitch); great-grandchildren, Ayla, Belle, Harper, Weston, Theodore, Zack and Brooklyn.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Jerry in 2017.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the medical staff at Calgary South Health Campus and all caregivers and staff members at The Manor Village Fish Creek Park.

A Celebration of Charlotte’s Life will be held at the Crossfield & District Community Hall (900 Mountain Ave, Crossfield, AB) on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.  A prior private interment will be held at the Crossfield Cemetery.  If desired, a memorial tribute may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S. (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society). www.stars.ca. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Charlotte’s family at www.MHFH.com.

In living memory of Charlotte Porteous, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
