The Wildrose Alliance Party will open nominations for the new Airdrie constituency, Aug. 6.

Sitting Wildrose MLA Rob Anderson said he plans to run again.

“I am pretty confident I’ll get nominated but you never want to be too confident,” he said.

“I can’t take any vote for granted and I must keep working as hard as I can to convince the people of Airdrie that it’s time for a change in the Provincial government and Wildrose is the change they want to see.”

The Wildrose Alliance was formed in January 2008 and has four members in the Legislature.

According to Anderson, there are about 500 Wildrose Party members in the Airdrie area. The current Airdrie-Chestermere constituency will be divided into the Airdrie and Chestermere-Rockyview constituencies in the next election, scheduled for 2012.

“It is a very healthy constituency,” he said.

Anderson said the government may call an election any day and the Wildrose Party wants its nominees in place as soon as possible.

“We want to form the next government of Alberta and we need to get good quality candidates,” he said.

“We want them to get out there working in the community as soon as possible. What (the Progressive Conservatives) have in money, we are going to make up for in good old fashioned hard work.”

Anderson said it is hard work that will make him stand out.

“When it comes down to it, it’s clear that I’ve put the views of my constituents before anything else,” he said.

“I represent my constituents clearly, openly and at times loudly. You will never see me be a PR person for any party. I think that is what the people in the constituency want.”

Individuals interested in running for the Wildrose Alliance Party can request a nomination application at www.wildrosealliance.ca

The application deadline for the riding will be 5 p.m. on Aug. 27. Nomination events, should they be required, will take place in early October.

More nomination announcements will be made over the next several months.
