Two teens arrested for robbery

Cochrane RCMP have made arrests in connection to an armed robbery that occurred at the Late Hours Liquor Store in Cochrane on Nov. 29.

Cochrane RCMP have made arrests in connection to an armed robbery that occurred at the Late Hours Liquor Store in Cochrane on Nov. 29.

The RCMP investigation, coupled with recent information provided by the Calgary Police Service, resulted in four search warrants in relation to the robbery.

Cochrane RCMP and Calgary Police officers arrested two 16-year-old boys from William Aberhart High School on Dec. 19, both were students of the school.

Search warrants were conducted on a school locker, two northwest Calgary residences, one in Hawkwood and one in Valley Ridge, and one vehicle.

As a result of these searches, some of the stolen items were recovered as well as some items used in the robbery. The youths are currently in custody in Cochrane.

At this time, the youths are facing charges of robbery and being disguised with intent to commit an indictable offence. Police say there is a possibility of additional charges being laid.

Fatal collision

A 26-year-old Calgary man died after a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1A between Twelve Mile Coulee Road and Bearspaw Road on Dec. 9 at around 4:15 a.m.

An eastbound, 2010 Nissan Sentra car, driven by the deceased man left the road and rolled through the centre median, ending up in the westbound lanes.

According to Cst. K. Moore of the Cochrane RCMP, which responded to the collision, the vehicle was discovered flipped upside down on its roof.

The man, along with a 22-year-old passenger, were transported to hospital with serious injuries. The man, whose name is not being released, later died in hospital.

The collision is still under investigation and no cause is know at this time.
