Traffic stop leads to arrest of two men for drug offenses

According to a release issued by RCMP on June 25, Terrance Roberts, 23, and Carter Cousins, 20, both of Airdrie, have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. Marijuana, cocaine and fentanyl – a very powerful painkiller – were found in the vehicle.

The officer conducted the traffic stop at approximately 1:30 a.m. after spotting the vehicle parked very close to a dumpster in a parking lot.

Roberts and Cousins face multiple charges. Roberts will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on July 9. Cousins will be in Airdrie Provincial Court on July 15. Both men were released on bail.

In a separate incident, RCMP seized large quantities of cocaine, marijuana and fentanyl from car at a residence in Silver Creek on June 9, according to a release issued June 29.

An officer witnessed a gray BMW travelling at a high rate of speed on 8th Street near Yankee Valley Boulevard at approximately 1:30 a.m. According to the release, after the vehicle made an illegal U-turn, the officer attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle fled.

The vehicle was located in Silver Creek a short time later, according to the RCMP release. The officer, upon spotting drugs in the vehicle, requested and obtained a search warrant and the vehicle was seized.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, according to the RCMP release.

A young offender has been arrested for a series of car prowlings in the Summerhill area of Airdrie on June 20, according to an RCMP release issued June 25. The youth, who cannot be identified due to his age, was arrested by Airdrie RCMP on June 23.

The youth will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on a date not being disclosed by RCMP.
