The fourth annual Taste of Bragg Creek will give participants an opportunity to enjoy sampling some of the great food and drink Bragg Creek vendors have to offer with a bit of a different spin this year. On April 1, foodies can use a special map of the hamlet to visit participating merchants throughout the community.

“Usually, we have the event at the Bragg Creek Community Centre, which is an ideal location,” said Media Co-ordinator Mackenzie Walsh. “Unfortunately, the facility had a water main break in January, so we had to get creative to figure out how we could still hold this event.”

Walsh said with an anticipated 1,000 people attending this year’s event, there was no alternative facility that would accommodate the large crowd. Instead, participants will be able to explore the community at their own pace, sampling treats along the way.

“We are encouraging people to get their comfy shoes on, bring a friend, and pick a starting point,” Walsh said. “We will have maps for everyone, and volunteers available throughout the community acting as guides, to make sure all of the participants know where they can go next.”

According to Walsh, there are currently more than 15 different vendors lined up for the event. Each participating merchant will be paired with a liquor vendor to offer a unique in-house special. The majority of the locations will be in the Bragg Creek Mall and the Village Centre Mall, as well as restaurants the Italian Farmhouse and the Bavarian Inn.

“Our culinary scene here really is quite unique,” Walsh said. “We have a number of boutique cafes and restaurants that have a lot to offer, so we want people to know that they are here. It’s a great drive out to Bragg Creek, and this event gives them a chance to take advantage of a full sampling.”

Walsh said it’s important for the community to host events that will draw new visitors to Bragg Creek, which she said is still in recovery from the flooding that hit the community hard in 2013. She said she hopes to see more new faces out to enjoy the unique setup of this year’s Taste of Bragg Creek.

“I think some people maybe don’t realize that we are still a great little town with a lot of interesting restaurants and shops to explore – all just a short drive away from the city,” Walsh said. “We’re in the foothills, surrounded by trees, with a beautiful mountain view. Bragg Creek is a beautiful place to come out and enjoy a Friday evening.”

Taste of Bragg Creek will take place from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on April 1. For more information, call 403-949-4277 or visit tasteofbraggcreek.ca
