RCMP has arrested three suspects in a pair of armed robberies in Didsbury and Olds on Feb. 10.

Lucas Denny, 20, from Red Deer, Dylan Kurney, 21, from Caroline, and Cody Cutter, 24, from Rocky Mountain House face numerous charges including Attempted Robbery, Theft from a Grocery Store and Possession of Stolen Property.

Kurney faces an additional charge of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle/Flight from the Police, while Cutter faces additional charges of Break and Enter and Theft of a Motor Vehicle from an incident near Sundre, as well as Theft of a Motor Vehicle from an incident in Airdrie.

Kurney and Denny were arrested in Kindersley, Sask., and remain in police custody, according to RCMP. Cutter voluntarily turned himself into RCMP in Sundre and is also in police custody.

The arrests come after significant investigation by RCMP in Alberta and Saskatchewan, according to Sergeant Jim Lank of the Sundre RCMP.

According to a release issued by the Division Strategic Communications Unit of the Southern Alberta District of the RCMP on Feb. 10, a blue Ford F450 flat deck truck was stolen from a compound in Airdrie sometime overnight from Feb. 9 to Feb. 10.

Cutter then attempted to rob a gas station in Didsbury at approximately 5:30 a.m. while brandishing a weapon but left “empty handed,” according to RCMP Media Relations Officer Sergeant Josée Valiquette.

Cutter, along with his accomplices, then traveled to Olds where at 6:15 a.m. he attempted to hold up a gas station using a weapon and once again left empty handed. According to RCMP, the stolen Ford truck was last seen travelling northbound from the gas station.

The Ford truck was subsequently found abandoned in a field south of Sundre, and Cutter and the other two suspects are then alleged to have stolen two additional vehicles from a nearby property.

RCMP describe the stolen vehicles as a 2006 silver GMC Envoy SUV and a 2007 white Dodge one ton truck, equipped with a bale handler. According to a release issued by Sundre RCMP on Feb. 12, all vehicles have been recovered.

At 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 10, two of the suspects entered a grocery store in Hanna and stole a cart of food before fleeing in the stolen Dodge truck, according to RCMP. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle leaving the grocery store parking lot heading north.

Warrants for Cutter's arrest were issued on Feb. 11 after he was identified as being the person responsible for the attempted robberies via video surveillance footage, according to Lank. The weapon used in the attempted robberies is believed to be a BB caliber handgun.

Kurney and Denny appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Feb. 12 to answer to the Possession of Stolen Property charge. They then appeared in the same court on Feb. 13 for a Show Cause Hearing related to the other charges. Warrants have been issued for the other charges they face in Alberta and the Crown is applying to have them returned to Alberta to face the charges in Didsbury Provincial Court.

Cutter's first court date has yet to be set.
