RCMP have charged two brothers, Theo and Julius Wheyee of Calgary, in connection to the discovery of burnt human remains found northwest of Airdrie on Sept. 18.
RCMP Strategic Communications K Division Spokesman Inspector Gibson Glavin couldn’t provide specific information on the evidence that led to the brothers’ arrest.
“The arrests were made on these two brothers within the City of Calgary,” he said. “Calgary Police Services supported us at a residence in Calgary.”
The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Saqib, 33, also of Calgary.
RCMP are still seeking a third suspect in the homicide, 29-year-old Saad Mohamed Osman of Calgary, who may go by the first name of Mustafa.
“We are anxiously seeking a third man, (Osman). He’s related to this homicide, we consider him to be armed and dangerous,” Glavin said. “We don’t want the public doing anything that might put (them) in harm’s way.
“(If the public has information), call us, and we’ll look after that part.”
Osman is described as being male, dark-skinned, with black hair and brown eyes. He is described as being 5’8” and 154 pounds.
Theo and Julius Wheyee have been charged with second-degree murder, arson and committing an indignity to a body. They will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Sept. 28.
RCMP found Saqib’s vehicle, a white Audi A6, in a ravine northwest of Airdrie on Sept. 18. An autopsy on the remains found burning in the vehicle was completed by the medical examiner, which helped to determine the identification of the victim.
RCMP was called out to the location on Township Road 280 and Range Road 283 northwest of Airdrie at approximately 7 a.m.
A media release issued by RCMP Alberta Media Relations on Sept. 19 stated a body had been found in the burnt out remains of the vehicle.
The release also stated investigators had ruled the death a homicide, however, no reasons were given for this ruling and RCMP Alberta Media Relations Spokesperson Constable Sharon Franks said she was unable to provide any additional information.
Crews from the Crossfield Fire Department and Rocky View County Fire Services also attended the scene and discovered the remains of the lone individual in the burning vehicle.
