Duane Redelback, 47, appeared in Airdrie Provincial Court by CCTV from the Calgary Remand Centre on Oct. 22. Redelback, who was arrested in Cochrane Sept. 11, is charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a human body.

The burnt remains of Redelback’s common law wife, Ruth Degayo, 40, a resident of Airdrie, were found in an abandoned building in the hamlet of Exshaw on Jan. 8, 2006.

Defense lawyer Lisa Burgis asked Provincial Court Judge K. Jivraj to adjourn Redelack’s bail hearing to Dec. 3, so lawyers and the Crown could determine if the bail hearing could be heard in Airdrie or needed to be moved to Calgary. Crown Prosecutor Lori Chambers agreed with Burgis’ request and the judge granted the adjournment.

Degayo and Redelback had a child together, who was two years old when Degayo went missing. RCMP could not say who currently has custody of the son. Redelback reported Degayo missing on Jan. 7, 2006.
