The 2014 Airdrie Alberta Summer Games needs Airdrie residents to vote in order to secure a $100,000 grant from Aviva Community fund.

Aviva Canada hosts an annual call for submissions from not-for-profits and community groups with their projects, then the public casts their vote on the projects they feel deserve funding.

Voters determine 90 semi-finalists in three qualifying rounds of voting (30 projects in each budget: small, medium and large). A semi-final round of voting determines which 30 (10 in each budget category) will receive a minimum of $5,000. Finally, the judges use criteria to determine who wins the grand prizes: impact, likelihood of success, longevity and sustainability, originality, submission quality and the number of votes received.

The 2014 Airdrie Alberta Summer Games ñ as of press time ñ is in the third round of voting with 309 votes.

ìThey donít tell us how many votes you need to have in order to move into the semi-final round,îBruce Daniels, media coordinator with the 2014 Airdrie Alberta Summer Games, said.

ìThis is the third round of voting, the semi-finals happen on Dec. 2.î

Voting for the third round will end on Nov. 25, with the final judging taking place on Dec. 18.

The total $1-million community fund is awarded through multiple prizes, giving the final submissions the chance to win. A minimum of six grand prizes are awarded to ideas in the competition: up to $150,000 is awarded to a broker supported idea, up to $150,000 is awarded to a qualifying at-risk-youth idea and $5,000 is awarded to each additional finalist idea.

ìResidents of Airdrie and Rocky View County can vote once a day until the deadline closes,î Daniels said.

ìWeíre asking everyone to vote as much as they can.î

Daniels said the event is also looking for sponsors and monetary donations to help get the Games ñ which will see 3,200 athletes and coaches come to Airdrie on July 24 to the 27 ñ up and running.

Residents who want a sponsorship package are asked to visit the Gameís headquarters at the Main Street firehall, or to call 403-875-8234 for more information.
