Three break and enter incidents – which occurred between Jan. 16 and 17 – are being investigated as related by Airdrie Rural RCMP, according to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Francine Hennelly.
“We’re looking for the public’s assistance in identifying these suspects,” she said. “We believe that these three (break and enters) are related. The same suspects, and the same motor vehicle was utilized in all three of these events.”
Suspects first parked a small dark hatchback on Jan. 16 around 3:30 a.m. in front of the Subway restaurant in Crossfield. A male and female suspect smashed a side glass window to gain entrance to the restaurant, but left after a short time empty-handed.
Later that day at around 5:15 a.m., the same vehicle parked outside Cervus Equipment near CrossIron Mills mall near Balzac. A male suspect smashed the glass door and stole multiple pieces of John Deere clothing.
On Jan. 17 around 6:15 a.m., the same vehicle returned to Cervus Equipment, and two male suspects along with one female suspect smashed through different glass windows. Once again, the suspects stole John Deere merchandise.
“It’s not unusual for thieves to target the same place twice if they’re successful,” Hennelly said. “This is unique as it was a very short duration (between robberies).”
The value of the merchandise stolen is not known at this time.
Credit card stolen
The Airdrie and Calgary Crime Stoppers Association is looking for help from the public to locate a man who stole a credit card from a vehicle in the parking lot at CrossIron Mills mall on Nov. 27, 2015.
“The vehicle that he broke into was a parked 2002 Honda Civic, light brown in colour,” Hennelly said. “He subsequently used the credit card to (make a purchase).”
Hennelly could not confirm the value of the loss or at what local business the suspect made the purchase.
RCMP was able to obtain a description of the suspect by utilizing video surveillance. The suspect is believed to be caucasian, with an average build, short dark hair and between 25 and 35 years of age.
The suspect was driving a stolen Oldsmobile Alero with an Alberta license plate, which has since been deactivated. RCMP is still looking for the vehicle, according to Hennelly.
Hennelly said the Crime Stoppers release was sent out some time after the crime took place in order to attempt to generate new leads.
“It’s more of a historical (case),” she said.
“We’re hoping this (generates) new interest.”
