RCMP responded to the London Drugs in Airdrie Jan. 29 after receiving a call from cleaners inside the store at approximately 3:50 a.m. that two men dressed as construction workers were trying to gain access to the building.

According to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Meagan Fillion, the men were seen arriving in a mid-2000s white or silver GMC or Chevrolet truck with a square light bar on top.

“The two unknown males attended the London Drugs, set up some pylons and signs to make it appear like it was a construction site and then used a power tool to try to cut the locks,” she said. “They tried to gain access to the business and were surprised there were employees inside cleaning.”

The men fled the scene in the truck when they saw the cleaners inside the store. Video surveillance footage was retrieved and provided to RCMP.

The first man is described by RCMP as Caucasian, wearing a grey ball cap, yellow construction vest and dark pants.

The second man is described as Caucasian, wearing a dark ball cap, orange construction vest, dark pants.

Both men obscured their faces by putting a piece of cloth over their mouths.

Rural Break and Enter

A break and enter at a home east of Airdrie Jan. 28 has RCMP looking for the culprits.

Among the items the thieves stole was an expensive 2015 Obsession Phoenix brand compound hunting bow. They also stole jewelry and an undisclosed amount of change.

The two thieves – a man and a woman – fled the scene in an older model green Ford Expedition or Explorer SUV. RCMP describe the woman as having blonde hair and wearing a camouflage-coloured coat.

Arrest Made

Airdrie RCMP arrested a 30-year-old man from Calgary Jan. 28 after a foot pursuit through the Reunion community in the city’s northwest.

According to Fillion, RCMP first received a call at 12:30 p.m. about a suspicious man wearing a hard hat and driving a black jeep in the Woodside neighbourhood.

A second call came into RCMP from a resident in Reunion at 2:30 p.m. about a dark jeep driving up and down the alleys and streets in the area. According to Fillion, the resident reported the driver of the Jeep appeared to be checking to see if people were at home.

Finally, a third call to RCMP at 2:45 p.m. was made by a second resident of Reunion who reported witnessing a man trying to break into a vehicle.

Fillion said the RCMP Police Dog Services was called to the scene to assist in locating the man who had fled through nearby backyards. He was quickly taken into custody.

A black Jeep Grand Cherokee was found parked nearby. RCMP determined the vehicle was stolen from Calgary, according to Fillion.

The accused was released from custody on a promise to appear. According to Fillion, charges had not yet been sworn as of Jan. 29 and his name could not be released.
