Strathmore RCMP is asking the public for assistance after an instrument panel was stolen from a vehicle between Jan. 31 and Feb. 2.

The theft occurred when a suspect entered an unlocked 2000 GMC Sierra in the Aspen Creek area of Strathmore.

The suspect removed the driver’s side dash and stole the instrument panel.

The panel was unplugged and would not have been damaged; the RCMP believe the suspect may be using the panel to rebuild a similar vehicle or replacing an odometer.

“This isn’t really that common of an occurrence,” said Cst. Andrea Dyck, of the Strathmore RCMP. “There are generally two types of auto theft, where a suspect steals a vehicle to commit a crime or to break it down and sell the parts.”

Anyone with information regarding this crime, or similar occurrences, is asked to contact Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
