Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle June 25, which claimed the life of the motorcyclist, according to a release issued by Airdrie Rural RCMP.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. near Highway 264 and Range Road 285.
According to the release, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a flat-deck trailer made a turn off Range Road 285 to go eastbound on Highway 564 when the truck was struck by a man riding a BMW HP4 motorcycle travelling westbound.
The 32-year-old driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.
The two occupants of the truck received minor injuries, were treated on scene by EMS and released, according to RCMP.
Airdrie Rural RCMP refused to comment further on the collision and would not provide information on which driver is believed to possibly have been impaired. Charges have not been laid at this time.
RCMP will not be releasing the name of the deceased.
One man is facing charges after Airdrie RCMP investigated the discovery of a stolen skid steer – or bobcat front loader – in the Real Canadian Superstore parking lot June 24.
A concerned citizen who saw an individual offering the skid steer for sale in the parking lot called RCMP at approximately 7 p.m. RCMP conducted a traffic stop and subsequently arrested the lone male occupant and driver of a pickup truck, which was pulling a trailer carrying the skid steer.
A 34-year-old man from Calgary, whose name is not being released by RCMP because the charges have not yet been sworn in court, is charged with two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and trafficking of stolen property. He also produced fake insurance and registration documents and has been charged with uttering a forged document.
RCMP has since determined the skid steer was stolen from Calgary in 2015. Police ran the plates and discovered the 2015 grey Ford F-150 pickup truck was also stolen from Drayton Valley in July 16, 2015, according to Airdrie RCMP Corporal Susan Richter.
“It’s unusual to hang on to it for that long,” she said.
The total value of the stolen property is estimated at $140,000.
