Specialized equipment stolen from local business

Business owner Sarah Sperrin-Landriault said she has no idea why someone would want to steal a specialized dolly trailer from the yard at her business, Hot Water Pools and Spas on East Lake Ramp.

“They took nothing but the spa dolly trailer, which is really weird because there was some other stuff sitting in (the yard),” she said.

“It’s industry specific. You can haul very few other things. It’s not flat, it’s folded, so you can’t haul many things unless you put plywood (down). It’s just not useful.”

According to Sperrin-Landriault, the theft occurred sometime between 8 p.m. on July 11 and 8 a.m. on July 12 when someone cut into the yard through a chain-link fence.

Sperrin-Landriault said she’s had to order a replacement dolly trailer, at a cost of $5,000 to the business.

“It is integral to our business. I can’t haul without it and I’ve already had to order a new one,” she said. “They come in from the U.S. so we can’t do any deliveries or tub moves. It’s a loss of income (for us).”

Sperrin-Landriault said the theft was reported to police.

Airdrie RCMP Constable Chris Gilroy said he had spoken with Hot Water Pools and Spas’ co-owner and police were pursuing a few leads, however, he was unable to go into specifics.

“Whoever it was knew what they were doing and knew what they wanted,” he said.

A nearby hotel has video surveillance equipment, according to Sperrin-Landriault, but the theft wasn’t caught on tape.

This isn’t the first time the business has been broken into.

“We got broken into last summer. We were sharing the yard and a truck got targeted,” Sperrin-Landriault said. “The gentleman (who owned it) had had that truck stolen before so it’s a pretty popular truck that people want. I think we had about $5,000 worth of tools stolen.”
