People in much of Alberta will be treated to a partial solar eclipse when the moon passes in front of the sun for a few hours today.
On Monday, April 8, a solar eclipse will plunge parts of Eastern Canada into darkness for a few minutes and areas further away will experience a partial eclipse, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) said.
In southern Alberta, including Airdrie, Rocky View County and Cochrane, the partial eclipse starts at 11:47 a.m., reaches its maximum at 12:42 p.m. and finishes at 1:39 p.m.
The duration and coverage of the eclipse varies, depending on location, CSA said.
The agency said proper eye protection is required to prevent eye damage when watching a partial solar eclipse and regular sunglasses do not provide enough protection.
Sunny weather today should make for great viewing for those with proper eye protection.
If you do not have proper eye protection, avoid looking at the eclipse as it can severely damage your eyes.
