Airdrie Rural RCMP has released a sketch of a man wanted in connection with a daytime break and enter on a rural property near Airdrie Jan. 18.

According to Airdrie Rural RCMP Constable Matt Gervais, a suspicious man was seen at a property on Rolling Acres Drive west of Airdrie at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The man was unknown to the person making the report to police. He was seen carrying two large duffle bags from the residence, which he then put in a grey/silver Honda SUV before departing the scene.

The citizen was able to provide RCMP with a license plate number, however, investigators later determined the plate had been stolen in Calgary earlier on Jan. 18.

According to Gervais, when RCMP officers arrived they found the door to the residence had been kicked in and the home ransacked. The thief is alleged to have taken numerous items from the home, including electronics and jewelry.

The suspect is described by RCMP as Caucasian, 25 to 30 years old, 5’8” to 6’0” with a slender to average build and short dark hair.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Red Deer RCMP detachment at 403-343-5575.

SUV collides with horse

Two people were transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary Jan. 23 when the SUV they were in collided with a horse on Highway 1A, approximately two kilometres west of the Ghost River Dam, according to EMS Spokesman Stuart Brideaux.

Brideaux said EMS was called to the scene just after 11 p.m.

“A man in his late 20s, the front seat passenger, was transported in serious, but otherwise stable and non-life threatening condition,” he said. “A woman in her mid-30s, the back seat passenger, was transported in stable condition.”

A third occupant of the SUV was transported to hospital by Nakoda EMS in stable, non life-threatening condition, according to EMS Spokesman Adam Loria.

Cochrane RCMP is investigating and believe alcohol to be a factor in the collision, according to Sergeant Randy Pack. Highway 1A was closed in both directions for one and a half hours as the RCMP Collision Analyst worked the scene.

Stolen Truck

A 2016 Kenworth T170 truck valued at $140,000 was stolen from a business north of Crossfield Jan. 19, according to Gervais.

Airdrie Rural RCMP received a call from Worx Heavy Hauling and Rigging on Jan. 19 reporting the theft, which occurred overnight.

The person or people responsible drove the truck through a fence around the business’ yard to make their getaway. The truck was equipped with a hook lift system on the back and was the only one of its type the company owned.

Rural Theft

Airdrie Rural RCMP responded to a theft of a Polaris ATV from a property southwest of Airdrie Jan. 16. The 2015 Polaris Razor RZR XP as well as a 2015 Forest River Cargo Mate trailer with Alberta license plate number 5AR 135 were stolen overnight, according to the property owners.

A large generator was also reported stolen but was recovered Jan. 17 a short distance from the property, according to Gervais.

The thief or thieves gained access to the property by cutting through the perimeter fence, according to Gervais.
