A crude oil pumpjack near Bearspaw caught fire early in the evening on Aug. 1.
Cochrane and Rockyview County fire crews responded to the fire at around 8 p.m. after receiving a call from a passerby who spotted the blaze.
The fire started in the pumpjack’s motor, which had been recently serviced and the shed which housed the motor was destroyed.
Fire crews were able to contain the blaze and prevented it from spreading to a nearby propane tank.
Rocky View District Chief Dax Huba says the fire was extinguished quickly and the propane tank was kept cool.
“I don’t think that there was enough flame to impinge the tanks to cause a major worry,” said Huba.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. A crude oil pumpjack near Bearspaw caught fire early in the evening on Aug. 1.
