Rocky View Schools (RVS) Acting Superintendent of Schools Susan Williams announced June 23, all Grade 9 pProvincial eExams will be cancelled and four schools will be exempt from Grade 12 dDiploma eExams following the flooding situation in Southern Alberta.

Students from Springbank Community High School, Cochrane High School, Bow Valley High School and the Cochrane campus of the RVS Community Learning Centre, may attend their home school for each exam as regularly scheduled,. Hhowever, students who do not attend on the exam date will be automatically exempted from the exam and their final mark will be the teacher- awarded grade.

“Student and staff safety is outr primary concern during these challenging times,” Williams wrote in a release on the RVS website.

Students from the Cochrane and Springbank areas who cannot make the regular scheduled exam date have the option of applying to write a diploma at a later date.

To apply to take an exam at a later date, visit http://www.education.alberta.ca/admin/testing/forms.aspx

However, students rewriting a diploma exam without retaking the course or mature students who are challenging a diploma exam are not eligible for exemptions and must write the diploma exam as scheduled or as approved for a later date.

Grade 10 and Grade 11 students from the high schools are able to write final exams as regularly scheduled,. hHowever, if the student cannot attend the exam they will also be automatically exempt and will receive a final grade based on the teacher- awarded mark.

Schools not exempt from Grade 12 dDiploma eExams are: George McDougall High School, Bert Church High School, W.G. Murdoch High School, Bbeiseker Community School, Chestermere High School and the Airdrie and Chestermere campuses of the RVS Community Learning Centre.

The schools not in the effected zone will write exams as regularly scheduled at their home school.

If the flooding directly impacts students in these schools they must apply to Alberta Education to receive an exemption. Exemption forms can be located at www.rockyview.ab.ca and must be signed by the school principal.
