A familiar face with Rocky View Schools (RVS), Pam Davidson, has been appointed to the role of acting director of 21st Century Learning, and will assume the role in August.
“Part of what that’s going to entail is helping implement across the jurisdiction professional supports that are going to allow all of the staff to follow our goals of students being successful, engaged and supported,” she said.
“I know that a primary component of that is incorporating a literacy and numeracy framework coupled with 21st century skills – trying to find a balance of foundational understanding and skill development that’s going to help kids be successful and thrive as they move forward beyond the walls of our schools.”
Currently principal at Springbank Community High School, Davidson has held a number of positions with RVS, including the principalship of Bert Church High School and Meadowbrook Middle School.
“I’m going to be sad to leave Springbank. I love working with kids. That’s really where the action is. I’m torn because I really love working with them,” she said. “To have these students who are going to go out and change the world – when I look at this at the meta-level, what can I do to help every educator in Rocky View to become as effective as possible at doing that.”
Davidson said, “there’s never a good time to leave a school,” but she is looking forward to the challenge her new role will bring.
She has a master of education in adult, community and higher education from the University of Calgary and a bachelor of education from the University of Alberta. She has worked in RVS since 1992. She was also seconded for two years to the faculty of education at the University of Calgary working in its teacher preparation program, an experience she said will help her in her new role working with educators.
“Pam is a strong advocate of shared leadership, professional learning and forward thinking instructional practices,” said RVS Superintendent of Schools Don Hoium in a press release. “I am excited to see her climb on board as our acting director and wish her much success.”
