Rocky View School Board (RVS) is asking the public to get creative and help name three brand new schools in the area through a contest that will not only have the winner’s school name adopted, but will also have the winner’s name inscribed on a plaque that will hang inside each of the schools.
“RVS preference for naming new schools is to first collect suggestions from the community, then establish a committee to review these suggestions,” explained RVS director of planning services John Wheatley. “The recommendations from the committee are taken to the Board of Trustees for a final review and approval.”
The three schools looking to be named are a K-9 school in the Kinniburg area of Chestermere, and Airdrie’s new 5-8 school in Sagewood and 9-12 high school in Prairie Springs.
“The contest is open to everyone,” noted Wheatley. “The committee determines specific rules, however there is a naming policy located on the RVS website that has more information.”
Contest submissions will be accepted until Nov. 30.
Entries can be sent by email to [email protected] or by fax at 403 945 4001. They can also be sent by mail to the attention of Lynne Castle at Rocky View Schools at 2651 Chinook Winds Drive SW, Airdrie, AB T4B 0B4
