Reeve Rolly Ashdown was presented with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal during a council meeting, March 26.
“It is an honour to receive something of this magnitude from you,” said Reeve Rolly Ashdown to former senator Bert Brown, who appeared before council to present the award.
Brown said Ashdown was receiving the medal for his “contributions to the community.”
Ashdown moved to the area in 1977 and has worked in automotive and real estate ever since.
He has had business interests in restaurants, water treatment, construction, land development and distribution.
“Reeve Ashdown enjoys the challenge of bringing people and ideas to create real change to benefit residents of Rocky View,” said Brown before handing the medal over to Ashdown.
The medal was created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne. The medal is also meant to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. In total, 60,000 Canadians were recognized.
