Rocky View County council approved to help fund enhancements for the Springbank Park For All Seasons Agricultural Society’s recreation facility, July 5.
The Rocky View West Recreation Board will fund $152,000 of the $304,000 cost. The other 50 per cent of the cost will be covered by the Springbank Park For All Seasons.
“There are some life cycle items we have to take care of,” said Mark Phillips, the operations supervisor for the park. “We want to start on the projects right away while (the rink) is closed down and there’s no ice in.”
Among the projects that the park is hoping to accomplish are the replacement of furnaces in the concession area, replacement of the facility’s rubber flooring and a structural remediation and maintenance assessment for the outdoor rink. Phillips said the society hopes to have the projects completed by the end of August. He also said the need for funding and the facility upgrades has been a long time coming.
“I’ve been there for about 19 years, and it’s been (in need of upgrades) since I can remember,” said Phillips.
The Springbank Park For All Seasons facility includes two hockey arenas, six curling ice sheets, two baseball diamonds and three soccer pitches.
