Trick-or-treaters in Airdrie this Halloween are being provided with an additional way to stay safe as they go door-to-door, thanks to a partnership between the Airdrie RCMP and nine insurance companies.

Because of this partnership, four thousand children in kindergarten through Grade 4 in Airdrie’s elementary schools will receive a metallic reflective bag to use on Halloween night, according to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Francine Hennelly.

Between Oct. 29 and Oct. 31, officers from the Airdrie detachment will visit the schools to deliver the bags and talk to the kids about staying safe on Halloween.

RCMP officers will also be out on Halloween, ensuring the city’s young trick-or-treaters stay safe and distributing a further 1,000 bags.

The nine insurance brokers taking part in the program are Air-Alta Insurance Ltd., Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, Brokerlink, The Co-operators, Kensington Insurance Services Ltd., McCracken Insurance MIL Ltd., Parklane Insurance Brokers, Platinum Insurance Inc. and State Farm Insurance.

The idea was the brainchild of Air-Alta Insurance. Receptionist Kelsey Hill said the business decided to get involved for a very important reason.

“You always hear those stories about how kids come close to being hit or something and we wanted to do more about the safety of the kids this year,” she said. “We approached the other brokers to see if they wanted to chip in and help out and they sure did.”

Debbie Miller, co-owner and manager of McCracken Insurance said the business decided to take part because, “Halloween is kind of fun and it seemed like a good thing to do that the insurance brokers all work together to keep the kids safe.”
