A woman was the victim of a robbery by a man while using the automated teller machine (ATM) at 4 p.m. at the Scotiabank on Main Street in Airdrie on Oct. 18, according to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Jason Curtis

The woman was grabbed from behind by the man who demanded she hand over the money she had withdrawn from the ATM, according to Curtis. He threatened to shoot the woman if she did not comply. Staff Sergeant Chad Fornier said the woman did not see a gun during the incident.

Once the woman gave the man an undisclosed amount of money, he fled from the scene in a vehicle. The bank was closed at the time of the incident according to the hours posted on their website. The man is described by RCMP as “black, 5’7” to 5’11” tall with an athletic build.” He was wearing a black knitted neck warmer over his mouth, a gray jacket with a hood, blue jeans, and a white t-shirt.

The vehicle is described as an older model, beige or brown-coloured four-door sedan with a dark interior.

According to Curtis, the woman was not injured in the incident and RCMP continue to investigate.

Jeans Stolen

RCMP is asking for the public’s help to identify two women who stole two pairs of jeans from the Below the Belt store at CrossIron Mills mall near Balzac on Sept. 24, according to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Jason Curtis.

Curtis said the two women entered the store at 11:50 a.m., and while one distracted staff, the other removed the security tags and stuffed two pairs of jeans into her purse.

“They must have missed one (of the security tags) because that’s how the staff noticed (the theft),” Curtis said.

“Staff went over when they heard the store alarm going (off) and they went to intercept the two ladies who took off at a pretty good pace.”

Curtis said staff found a few security tags left behind by the women, and that some jeans had been taken. Staff contacted police who collected witness statements and video surveillance footage.

The first woman is described as Caucasian, in her mid-30s with short blonde hair. She was heavy set and was wearing all black clothing and brown boots.

The second woman is also described as heavy set, Caucasian with blonde hair pulled back into a bun. She was wearing dark clothing.
