A 26-year-old Airdrie woman is facing multiple charges in relation to two separate motor vehicle collisions that occurred south of Airdrie on Oct. 31.

Just before 11 p.m., witnesses reported seeing a grey Dodge Charger travelling eastbound on CrossIron Drive just east of Highway 2. The vehicle lost control and crashed into a storage yard belonging to Bass Pro Shops, just east of the CrossIron Mills mall.

After crashing through the chain-link perimeter fence, the Charger drove back onto CrossIron Drive and continued westbound back toward Highway 2. While attempting to take the southbound ramp onto Highway 2, the vehicle left the roadway again.

This time, the Charger careened down a steep embankment, crossed a gravel service road and crashed through a snow fence and barbed wire fences. The vehicle then drove over the edge of a steep precipice, and came to rest in a creek about 45 feet below.

When emergency responders arrived on scene, the female driver was still belted into the driver’s seat and required assistance to exit the vehicle. The driver was assessed by EMS on-scene and was found not injured in the collision. The woman is now facing two impaired driving related charges and one charge of failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

“This incident serves as yet another reminder of why alcohol and driving do not mix,” said Provincial Sheriff Jason Graw.

“This collision was completely preventable. This young lady is fortunate to have not sustained any injuries in this serious crash and of course fortunate that she did not injure anyone else.”

She is scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Dec. 15 in relation to these charges.

Chestermere RCMP, with assistance from a Calgary RCMP Police Service dog team and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, uncovered a $2.5-million marijuana grow-up on Nov. 3.

Force was used to enter a duplex residence in the East Lakeview area of Chestermere, where about 2,000 soil-based hydroponic grow plants, in various stages of growth, were found.

The separate residences were joined in the middle with a common door allowing free access to each side.

Both residences had electrical and water bypasses.

This investigation will continue to confirm the identity of the people responsible for potential charges of cultivation of marijuana.

Alberta Health Services is involved to ensure the safety of community through a health assessment of these properties.

Cochrane RCMP, EMS and Fire Rescue responded to a collision near the Morley townsite, where a vehicle struck two boys, Oct. 30.

Both pedestrians were taken by ambulance to the Foothills Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in this incident.

Police investigators believe that glare caused by the sun may have contributed to the collision.

If you have information on any unsolved crime, contact your local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.crimestoppers.ab.ca
