Beiseker RCMP officers are looking for a man who allegedly attempted to break into a gas station in Irricana and broke into a residence in Three Hills Nov. 1.
According to a press release issued by Beiseker RCMP Sgt. Glen Demmon, the man broke glass doors at Norm’s Stop & Go in Irricana at approximately 3 a.m. but wasn’t able to gain entry. Later that day, the same man allegedly broke into a residence in Three Hills and stole a variety of items, including antique currency and a black Chevrolet Equinox.
An abandoned Mitsubishi Eclipse was found near the residence – which was the same vehicle the suspect was seen fleeing in from the gas station in Irricana, according to the release.
The suspect allegedly went to the Bank of Montreal in Acme later that afternoon and tried to sell the antique money that had been stolen from the residence in Three Hills. Staff members at the bank did not accept the currency. The suspect fled in the Equinox, which was recovered near Blackfalds Nov. 4, according to the release.
Serious collision
A single vehicle collision near Cochrane Nov. 20 left the two occupants of the vehicle trapped overnight with broken bones.
According to Stuart Brideaux, public education officer with Alberta Health Services, an SUV lost control on Highway 579 near Highway 40 at approximately 8 p.m. and rolled down a steep embankment, landing approximately 200 feet from the road.
Brideaux said the occupants were able to remove themselves from the vehicle but weren’t able to contact emergency services until the following morning.
Emergency services arrived at approximately 10 a.m. Nov. 21 and found a man and woman, both from Didsbury and in their 40s, suffering from serious injuries. The 42-year-old female driver had a broken collarbone and the 41-year-old male passenger had leg and back injuries.
“As a result of their injuries, lack of information about where they were or how far it was back to the roadway – and lack of cell phone service – they decided to stay in place overnight,” reads a Cochrane RCMP press release.
Members of the Cochrane Fire Department and Ghost River District Fire Department conducted a high angle rope rescue and the man was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary via STARS Air Ambulance. The woman was taken to the Didsbury Hospital via ground ambulance.
The investigation is ongoing and officers do not believe alcohol was a factor.
Shotgun stolen
A shotgun was stolen from a vehicle on a rural residence east of Airdrie sometime between 11 a.m. Nov. 20 and 5 a.m. Nov. 21.
According to Airdrie RCMP Corporal Curtis Peters, the stolen firearm is a Mossberg Silver Reserve over/under double barrel 20-gauge shotgun.
It was not loaded at the time of the theft and was stored in a cloth carrying case with a trigger lock in place. Peters said the gun and the case were the only items stolen.
“The owner believes the vehicle was locked at the time,” Peters said.
