Airdrie RCMP is investigating a theft at the Sobey's Liquor Store located at 121 Main Street south on Oct. 4 at approximately 6 p.m.

Three women entered the store and stole six bottles of liquor by secreting the bottles in their clothing while distracting the staff.

"They basically took turns speaking to the clerk and one by one as they were speaking to the clerk the other ones go and remove items from the shelves, all of which was visible later on surveillance video," said Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Jason Curtis.

"Employees fairly quickly noticed that something didn't seem right and believed that possibly these ladies had left with items. Reviewing the video surveillance confirmed that they did."

RCMP describe the first suspect as Caucasian, in her 40s, 5'5" tall with a thin build and shoulder length black hair. She was wearing a white jacket and blue jeans and was carrying a black purse.

The second suspect is described by RCMP as "black," in her 30s, 5'8" tall with an average build and black hair. She was wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket, white sweater, blue shirt and grey pants.

The third suspect is described as "black" and in her 30s. At the time of the theft she was wearing a long black jacket, grey scarf, purple shirt and grey pants. She is described as being 5'8" tall with a heavy build and her hair was dyed red and purple.

Airdrie RCMP is also investigating a separate incident at an Airdrie liquor store on Oct. 3.

A man entered the Horseman Liquor Store on Edmonton Trail Oct. 3 at approximately 3:40 a.m. and demanded money from a clerk while brandishing a knife.

"The other employee was able to hit the alarm which spooked the suspect and caused him to run out," Curtis said.

The suspect left the store before any cash was handed over.

Officers conducting regular traffic enforcement across the street at the time responded quickly, according to Curtis, however the man was able to flee the scene.

RCMP Police Dog Services was brought in to track the man but, despite attempts to locate the suspect, were not able to do so.

"We believe he got into a vehicle," Curtis said.

He is described as 6' tall and was wearing a black balaclava and a grey jacket at the time of the attempted armed robbery.

The clerks were both shaken but not injured, according to Curtis.

RCMP is considering the incident armed robbery although the suspect did not actually steal anything.

"He did threaten with the use of force and demand cash," Curtis said.
